Education Minister Inaugurates Committee For National Education Forum

On February 6, 2025, the Minister of Education, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, inaugurated a new eight-member committee tasked with exploring ways to sustain the financing of Ghana’s Free Senior High School Policy.

The committee’s focus will be on finding solutions to ensure the timely and quality provision of services such as feeding in schools.The committee, chaired by Professor George K.T. Oduro, a former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, also includes prominent figures in the education sector, such as Professor Goski Alabi, Prof. Rosemary Bosu, Dr. Samuel Awuku, and others.

Minister Iddrisu emphasized that the President John Dramani Mahama has prioritized education as a key development tool. He encouraged the committee to explore ways to bridge gaps in education quality between regions, while ensuring that the education system meets national aspirations.

The committee’s primary responsibility is to organize a National Education Forum, develop strategies for involving key stakeholders, and create a new policy framework for the country’s education system.

The forum will include various stakeholders, from students and parents to political parties and development partners.The committee has been given two weeks to submit a detailed plan for the forum.
