Fire Destroys Kwashieman School Library and Contested Ablekuma North Ballot Boxes

A devastating fire engulfed the library of the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools early this morning, destroying ballot boxes from the disputed Ablekuma North constituency elections. The blaze, which started around 1:40 a.m., consumed election materials stored in the library.

The Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly and spent over two hours battling the fire to prevent it from spreading to other parts of the school. However, significant damage was done to the building and its contents.

Adding to suspicions, partially burned ballot papers were discovered outside the premises, raising questions about the fire’s origin. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether foul play was involved.

The incident has sparked concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, as the Ablekuma North constituency elections have been highly contested.

The Electoral Commission declared Ewurabena Aubynn of the NDC the winner, a result fiercely disputed by the NPP candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, intensifying tensions in the area.

Authorities are working to reconstruct the events leading to the fire while the Ghana Police Service has assured the public that they will identify and hold those responsible accountable.
