Ibrahim Mahama Meets 13-Year-Old KNUST Prodigy From Bole

Businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has met with 13-year-old Melchizedek Adio Baafawiise, the youngest student ever admitted to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The meeting, held in Accra on Monday, February 3, 2025, brought together Melchizedek and his parents for an inspiring discussion about education, ambition, and the future of science in Ghana.

Ibrahim Mahama, a strong advocate for youth empowerment, praised the young physics prodigy for his outstanding achievements. Melchizedek, from Bole in the Savannah Region, gained national attention after scoring 5 As and 3 Bs in the WASSCE at just 13 years old, earning him admission to study Physics at KNUST.

To support his passion for science and mining engineering, Mahama gave Melchizedek a unique learning experience aboard one of his private jets. During the flight back to Kumasi, the young scholar was taken into the cockpit, where he observed the aircraft’s technical operations—an experience that aligned perfectly with his interest in physics and aerospace engineering.

Melchizedek, who initially dreamed of becoming a pilot before shifting to physics, was thrilled by the opportunity. “This experience reinforces my belief that physics can open doors to many fields, including aerospace engineering,” he said.

Beyond mentorship, Ibrahim Mahama pledged to fully fund Melchizedek’s education at KNUST and beyond, covering tuition, accommodation, and other academic expenses to ensure he achieves his full potential without financial challenges.

Melchizedek’s parents expressed deep gratitude for Mahama’s generosity, saying his support would greatly impact their son’s future.

Encouraging the young prodigy to keep striving for excellence, Mahama stated, “Young minds like Melchizedek are the future of Ghana. It is our responsibility to support and nurture them so they can reach their full potential.”
