Legon Students Criticize Lydia Alhassan For Cancelling Free Shuttle After Election Loss

Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has faced backlash from students at the University of Ghana after making changes to key services she introduced for them, following her defeat in the 2024 elections.

Among the changes, the free shuttle service that previously transported students around campus has now been turned into a paid service.

Additionally, her free driving school initiative, which offered practical training for students, has been canceled.

These adjustments came after Alhassan lost her seat to actor and politician John Dumelo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who won by over 12,000 votes.

Although Alhassan remains MP until the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025, her decision to cut these services has angered many students.

Students have expressed disappointment, criticizing her for withdrawing the services they relied on, especially after using these initiatives to gain votes.

Some have accused her of taking advantage of them for political gain and showing her true intentions after the election loss.
