School Feeding Caterers Directed to Resume Work

The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has instructed all existing caterers to resume meal services for schoolchildren across the country following the payment of arrears for the third term of the 2023/2024 academic year.

This directive aims to ensure that pupils in all 16 regions continue to benefit from the initiative, which provides one hot, nutritious meal daily. Schools reopened on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

In a statement issued by the GSFP National Coordinator, it was disclosed that 40 out of 71 cooking days’ arrears for the first term of the 2024/2025 academic year have been settled. The remaining 31 days’ arrears will be cleared soon, reflecting the government’s commitment to the programme’s continuity.

Currently supporting over four million children in public basic schools, the School Feeding Programme is a critical component of Ghana’s efforts to improve education access and child nutrition.

The GSFP also announced that a new caterer procurement process will be implemented under the current administration. The process, developed in consultation with stakeholders, aims to enhance the efficiency and transparency of the programme.

The GSFP called on community leaders and stakeholders to support caterers in executing their duties smoothly.

“We strongly appeal to all stakeholders and opinion leaders within beneficiary communities to ensure that caterers are able to serve one hot nutritious meal to pupils without disruptions,” the statement read.
