Africa World Airlines (AWA) has donated GH¢100,000 to Labone Senior High School (Labone SHS) to support the school’s endowment fund. This donation is part of AWA’s commitment to supporting education and promoting long-term community development.
The founder of AWA and a proud alumnus of Labone SHS, Togbe Afede XIV, presented the cheque to the school’s headmistress, Rejoice Skua Acorlor, during a ceremony held on the school premises. He attended Labone SHS from 1974 to 1976 and spoke warmly about how the school helped shape his academic and professional journey.
“Labone gave me the foundation to pursue my dreams. It taught me ambition, hard work, and the importance of planning,” Togbe Afede said.
He explained that the donation was not just a one-time contribution but a strategic investment into the school’s future. He emphasized the importance of supporting long-term development through the endowment fund, rather than reacting only in times of crisis.
“This is not an emergency response. It’s a planned investment to ensure that future generations of students benefit from quality education and improved facilities,” he added.
In addition to the financial support, Togbe Afede used the opportunity to inspire students with a motivational message. He encouraged them to be disciplined, determined, imaginative, and proactive in planning their futures.
“Success doesn’t come from dreaming alone. It comes from waking up and working hard toward your goals. Poverty is manufactured in bed. The harder you work, the luckier you become,” he told the students.
He also advised them to cultivate a love for reading, prepare for lessons in advance, and focus on truly understanding what they learn instead of just memorizing facts. He stressed the importance of character development, urging students to be honest, humble, modest, and grateful.
“Helping others is one of the best ways to help yourself,” he said. “Altruism is the highest form of self-interest.”
The headmistress, Rejoice Skua Acorlor, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Africa World Airlines and Togbe Afede for their continuous support. She noted that this was not the first time he had donated to the school; a similar donation was made in December 2024.
“In recent years, Togbe has made several generous contributions to the school. Today’s donation once again shows his deep commitment to the development of Labone SHS,” she said.
She encouraged students to learn from his example, reminding them that success comes from preparation and hard work.
“You cannot give back if you haven’t worked to achieve success. Study hard now so you too can one day support others,” she advised.
