Education Minister Launches New 12-Member GES Council

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, on Friday officially launched a new 12-member council for the Ghana Education Service (GES).

This council will provide strong leadership and direction for Ghana’s pre-tertiary education system, which includes basic and secondary schools.

The council is led by Professor Mawutor Avoke, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

The other members include:

  • Dr. Rosemond Wilson from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC)
  • Professor Azeko Tahiru Salifu from the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NASIA)
  • Mr. Adam Adu Marshall from the National Teaching Council (NTC)
  • Professor Yayra Dzakadzie from the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA)
  • Rt. Rev. Paa Solomon Grant-Essilfie, representing teacher associations on a rotating basis
  • Mrs. Mamle D. Andrews, Chief Director at the Ministry of Education
  • Mrs. Felicia Dapaah Agyeman-Boakye, representing Local Government
  • A representative from Faith-Based Organisations
  • Adamu Bintu Fati, representing Non-Teaching Staff of the GES
  • Florence Bobi, a female educationist
  • Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, the Director-General of GES

According to the Ministry of Education, forming this council shows a strong commitment to improving education in Ghana. The council is expected to help coordinate the work of different agencies, promote reforms, and support efforts to raise the quality of education in schools across the country.
