Education Ministry Denies Claims Of Teacher Trainee Allowance Cancellation

The Ministry of Education has denied recent reports suggesting that the government plans to abolish the teacher trainee allowance. The Ministry described these claims as misleading and sensational.

This statement came after a front-page article in The Daily Graphic on February 4, 2025, with the headline “Teacher Trainee Allowance to go.” The Ministry clarified that the report misrepresented comments made by the Minister of Education during a discussion with executives of the Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF).

The Ministry explained that during the meeting, the Minister stated that the government is open to exploring ways to enhance financial support for students in Colleges of Education, including considering an improved loan scheme.

However, the Minister was clear that the government would continue to maintain the teacher trainee allowances until further discussions and agreements with stakeholders are concluded.

The Ministry called on the media outlet to correct the “wrong impression” created by the publication and to provide equal prominence to the official clarification.

It also urged media organizations to verify information with the Ministry before publishing to prevent unnecessary confusion among stakeholders.
