GES Rejects CHASS’ Postponement Request; Insists On SHS Reopening Date

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that the reopening date for Senior High Schools (SHS) remains unchanged despite a request from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) for a postponement.

CHASS had earlier urged the Ministry of Education to resolve financial challenges in second-cycle schools before January 3, 2025, warning that unresolved issues could disrupt reopening.

In a recent statement, CHASS advised against reopening schools under the current conditions. However, in a statement on January 2, 2025, the GES reiterated that the 2024/25 academic calendar would proceed as planned.

SHS students are expected to resume on January 3, 2025, while primary and Junior High School (JHS) students will return on January 8, 2025.

The GES assured the public that it is engaging with the Ministry of Education to address the concerns raised by CHASS and is committed to ensuring a smooth start to the academic year.

It urged all stakeholders to adhere to the schedule and make necessary preparations for reopening.
