Grammy Organizers Cancel Pre-and-Post-Awards Events to Support Los Angeles Wildfire Victims

Universal Music Group, the organizer of the Grammy Awards, has announced the cancellation of all events surrounding the ceremony, including the artist showcase and after-party, in order to focus resources on supporting victims of the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires in California.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the group expressed their gratitude to first responders and emergency personnel for their efforts in combating the fires.

They also acknowledged the deep connection between Los Angeles and the music community, pledging to support affected artists, teams, and residents.

The decision comes as the wildfires continue to devastate the region, forcing more than 180,000 residents from their homes. Nigerian celebrities such as actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and reality TV star Faith Morey have also been impacted by the fires.

Omotola recently evacuated and returned to Nigeria, while Faith Morey shared a video of her 20-minute evacuation experience. The cancellation, although disappointing for fans and industry members, was seen as a necessary move to support those in need during this crisis.

The Grammy Awards have a strong connection to Nigeria, with artists like Wizkid and Burna Boy having won the prestigious award in the past.
