Unidentified Men Demolish Keta MCE’s Private Building On Reclaimed Land

Published on

On Sunday morning, December 29, 2024, a group of unidentified men partially demolished a private storey building belonging to the Keta Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Emmanuel Gemegah.

The incident occurred around 9 a.m. at the reclaimed land area near Emancipation Beach, Adzido-Aflasco. The armed men, accompanied by two bulldozers, also destroyed a fence wall owned by another individual, Rocky Amugi.

Police were called to the scene and managed to prevent further destruction. This event is tied to an ongoing dispute over the management of reclaimed land in Keta.

The youth in the area have been vocal about their dissatisfaction, claiming that land meant for a stadium is being illegally sold to private developers, including the MCE.

In October 2024, the same building was targeted by protesters who marked it with “Stop Work” and warned against further development, stating that the issue was pending in the High Court in Sogakope.

Despite the warnings, construction continued, leading to Sunday’s dramatic action. The incident highlights growing tensions over land allocation in the region, as residents demand transparency and accountability.
