‘We Haven’t Treated Anyone Unjustly’ – WAEC Responds To NUGS Protest

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has responded to the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) regarding their planned protest over withheld 2024 WASSCE results, stating that it has not treated any candidate unjustly.

Speaking to Citi News, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, acknowledged NUGS’ right to demonstrate but emphasized that the council operates within its mandate.

“NUGS has the constitutional right to protest. However, no single WAEC staff member unilaterally withholds or cancels results. These decisions are made by the appropriate committees of the council, as has always been the practice,” Kapi explained.

NUGS had earlier accused WAEC of unfairly withholding and canceling results, calling it an abuse of discretionary power. However, WAEC insists that all actions taken align with standard procedures and are not arbitrary.
