69-year-old Denzel Washington Gets Baptized To Become A Minister Of The Gospel

Hollywood legend Denzel Washington has taken a significant step in his spiritual journey by becoming a minister of the Gospel.

The 69-year-old actor was baptized on Saturday, December 21, at Kelly Temple in New York City, where Archbishop Christopher Bryant presided over the ceremony.

Before his baptism, Washington addressed the congregation, sharing his gratitude and faith. “It took a while, but I’m finally here… If [God] can do this for me, there’s nothing He can’t do for you. The sky literally is the limit,” he said before being immersed in water.

This milestone comes weeks after the actor spoke candidly about the challenges of discussing religion in Hollywood.

Writing for Esquire, Washington noted, “When you see me, you see the best I could do with what I’ve been given by my Lord and savior. I’m unafraid.” He also acknowledged the stigma surrounding open discussions about faith in the entertainment industry.

“You can’t talk like that and win Oscars. You can’t say that in this town. But I’m free now,” he remarked, emphasizing that many in Hollywood quietly hold strong beliefs.

Known for his powerful roles in films such as Training Day and Gladiator II, Washington’s bold embrace of his faith signals a new chapter in his life, one he says is guided by his unwavering trust in God.
