Afua Asantewaa Completes 121-Hour Singathon In GWR Attempt

Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum has completed 121 hours and 39 minutes of nonstop singing in her second attempt to set the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

The remarkable feat took place at Heroes’ Park, Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, from December 21 to December 25, 2024.

Over five days, the 34-year-old media personality and singer performed more than 200 songs, covering Ghanaian genres like gospel, highlife, afrobeat, and hiplife.

Reflecting on her accomplishment, Afua said, “I am fulfilled knowing I succeeded in promoting Ghanaian songs.”

She also expressed gratitude to her dedicated team, which included her manager Gladys Osei Owiredu, her husband Kofi Owusu Aduonum (Head of PR), and team members Fredrick Fosu, Kelvin Abban, and Isaac Amponsah.

This was Afua’s second attempt at the record. In 2023, she sang for 126 hours, surpassing the 105-hour record held by India’s Sunil Waghmare. However, her effort did not qualify due to technicalities.

This year, she came back stronger, completing 121 hours and 39 minutes. The next step for Afua and her team is submitting detailed evidence to Guinness World Records for validation.

This includes video recordings, witness statements, and logs to confirm compliance with all guidelines. If approved, Afua Asantewaa will officially claim the title and make history as a Guinness World Record holder.

Her determination and resilience have inspired many, with supporters cheering her on throughout the marathon. Afua’s achievement is a celebration of Ghanaian music and her unyielding spirit.
