Chris Brown Sues Warner Bros. For $500M Over Defamation

American singer Chris Brown has filed a $500 million lawsuit against Warner Bros. Discovery, accusing the company of defamation and emotional distress over a 2024 documentary that labels him a serial abuser.

The series revisits Brown’s 2009 assault on Rihanna and other allegations of violence against women.

Brown’s legal team claims the documentary misrepresents events, includes fabricated details, and was designed to damage his reputation for profit.

The lawsuit alleges that Warner Bros. failed to verify facts, sensationalized the story, and ignored legal outcomes that cleared him in certain cases.

Brown also accuses the network of conducting a smear campaign by excluding his perspective from the production. “This case is about the media prioritizing profit over truth,” the complaint reads.

It further claims that a central accuser in the documentary had been discredited multiple times and was allegedly the aggressor in their relationship. Brown’s lawyers emphasized that he has never been convicted of any sex-related crime, yet the documentary paints him as a “serial rapist and sexual abuser.”

They argue that the release has caused irreparable harm to his career, personal life, and public image. The lawsuit seeks $500 million in damages for lost opportunities, reputational harm, and emotional trauma.

Warner Bros. has yet to respond to the allegations, though the documentary has faced criticism for allegedly exploiting past controversies.

Brown’s legal team has pledged to hold the company accountable, calling the series a “calculated and malicious attack” on his character.
