Election 2024: Presidential Candidates Sign Peace Pact For A Peaceful December 7 Poll

Ahead of Ghana’s December 7 general elections, all presidential candidates have pledged to uphold peace by signing a peace pact on November 28, 2024.

The ceremony, held at the Kempinski Hotel, aimed to ensure unity and stability throughout the election process. The peace pact binds the candidates to campaign responsibly, promote national unity, and accept the election results peacefully.

Key dignitaries present included Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson Jean Mensa, National Peace Council Chairman Reverend Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, and the National Chief Imam Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu.

Reverend Dr. Adu-Gyamfi emphasized the need for free, fair, and transparent elections, urging candidates to honor their commitments even after results are announced.

Electoral Commission Chair Jean Mensa called the signing a vital step in Ghana’s democracy and praised the candidates for prioritizing peace over personal ambitions.

The presidential candidates who signed the pact included Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (NPP), John Mahama (NDC), and representatives from smaller parties such as GUM, CPP, APC, and LPG, alongside independent candidates like Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and Kofi Koranteng.

As election day approaches, this peace pact stands as a firm reminder of the importance of preserving Ghana’s peace and stability during this critical time.
