Ghanaians React As UCC Fresher Chooses First-Class Degree Over $1 Million

A video of a University of Cape Coast (UCC) student has gone viral after he boldly stated that he would choose a first-class degree over $1 million (approximately GH¢14.6 million).

The young man’s confident response sparked a wave of reactions from Ghanaians online.

In the video shared on TikTok, the UCC fresher was asked to choose between the substantial cash amount and a first-class degree. Without hesitation, he opted for the degree, explaining that it would be the key to his future success.

“I will choose first class because that will be the avenue I will use to gain the $1 million you are talking about,” he said.

When probed further about his decision, the student emphasized that a good degree would enable him to secure a job, which he believed would eventually lead him to earn more than the $1 million.

His confidence in obtaining a first-class degree and securing employment right after school was evident as he expressed optimism about his academic future.

As of the time of writing, the video had garnered over 1,000 likes and 100 comments, with the caption: “First class Upper Fresher in UCC Throws challenge to all students.”

The young man’s decision sparked a range of reactions from online users, with some questioning the seriousness of his choice.

Some commenters expressed doubt, with one user, Yaw Dwarkwaa, suggesting that the student was only making the statement because he knew he was being recorded, while others questioned whether he truly understood the value of the $1 million.

“He doesn’t know a million dollar !!! Ask him how many lectures have million dollar in his school,” wrote Paradiz718.

Others, like Rich Pablo, reacted to the student’s choice with surprise, saying, “Herrr first class Eiis over a million dollars,” while Mhicky Mhickyl simply stated, “This guy no be serious.”

On the other hand, some users supported the student’s belief in the value of a good education, with one comment from CRISPRCAS9 stating, “First class is nothing in the real world but your skills.”

The video has ignited a larger conversation on social media about the importance of academic success versus financial wealth, with many Ghanaians weighing in on the student’s bold declaration.
