‘Mahama To Open Education Review Conference In Mid-February’ – Education Minister

Former President John Mahama will officially open the highly anticipated Education Review Conference in mid-February 2025, according to Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu.

The conference will focus on the current state and future of education in Ghana, aiming to develop recommendations for improving the sector, promoting equity, and building a competitive, quality workforce for the country.

The announcement was made during a press briefing in Accra to mark International Day of Education on January 24, which this year focused on the theme: “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation.”

Mr. Iddrisu emphasized how AI is transforming education by personalizing learning, automating tasks, and improving access to underserved communities.

He called for partnerships to bridge gaps in AI and ensure high-quality education in remote areas, using adaptive technologies to meet diverse learning needs.

He also highlighted the importance of empowering educators to create inclusive classrooms, incorporating digital literacy, AI ethics, and critical thinking into curricula.

The Minister urged stakeholders to work towards an education system that is equitable, inclusive, and responsive to modern challenges and opportunities.

“To harness innovation and uphold human agency, education must remain a beacon of hope for every child and community,” he said, acknowledging the efforts of everyone involved in advancing education in Ghana.

To fully take advantage of AI in education, Mr. Iddrisu stressed the need to expand fiber and broadband infrastructure across all educational institutions to ensure reliable internet access, collaborating with the Ministry of Communication and the private sector to achieve stable connectivity.
