President-Elect John Mahama Raises Alarm Over Outgoing Government’s Actions

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has expressed concerns about last-minute actions by the outgoing government, including the signing of contracts and mass recruitments into state agencies.

During a meeting with UK High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, on December 13, 2024, Mahama noted that these activities could create significant challenges for his incoming administration.

He highlighted that para-state agencies were rushing to finalize contracts, potentially binding the new government to financial obligations before it assumes office.

Mahama also raised alarms about reports of large-scale recruitments into public institutions, which he believes could result in additional financial burdens for his administration.

He appealed to the UK High Commissioner to urge the outgoing government to act responsibly and support a smooth transition.

Mahama emphasized the importance of transparency and cooperation between the two administrations to avoid unnecessary economic strain.

With his inauguration scheduled for January 7, 2025, Mahama’s remarks underscore the need for a coordinated and accountable handover process to maintain stability in governance.
