Sakasaka Cluster of Schools Celebrates 70 Years of Educational Excellence in Tamale

The Sakasaka Cluster of Schools in Tamale, Northern Region, has marked its 70th anniversary, celebrating seven decades of academic achievement and community impact.

Held under the theme “Seven Decades of Academic Excellence and Shaping Minds – Prospects and Challenges,” the event brought together students, teachers, alumni, parents, government officials, and members of the community to reflect on the school’s legacy.

Established in 1954, the Sakasaka Cluster of Schools has long been a pillar of education in Tamale. It became one of Ghana’s designated Experimental Primary Schools in 1965, playing a key role in providing students with direct access to secondary education through the Common Entrance system. Over the years, it has produced generations of well-rounded individuals who have contributed to national development and beyond.

The anniversary celebrations took place from November 9 to 16, 2024. The week began with a health walk through the main streets of Tamale, where participants wore special anniversary T-shirts. This was followed by a homecoming tour, allowing alumni and current students to connect and reflect on the school’s journey.

The climax of the celebrations was a full day of activities from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., which included:

  • A football gala featuring friendly matches between students, teachers, and alumni
  • Free health screenings for attendees
  • Speeches and community interactions

Alhaji A.Y.B. Ibrahimah, former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Tamale and Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, described the event as a meaningful reflection on the school’s journey.

“As we reflect on seven decades of dedication to education, we honour the countless individuals who have contributed to our success,” he stated.

He added, “This anniversary is not only a celebration of our past, but also a commitment to facing future challenges and continuing to shape the minds of the next generation.”

To show unity and pride, attendees were encouraged to wear the official anniversary cloth throughout the celebrations.
