Student Dies In Fire Outbreak At Saboba EP SHS Girls’ Dormitory

A tragic fire outbreak at Saboba EP Senior High School in the Northern Region has resulted in the death of a first-year student, Binidan Theresah.

The fire broke out at the girls’ dormitory, and Theresah’s body was found burnt beyond recognition after the fire was extinguished.

According to reports, she was unable to escape the blaze because she had been feeling ill and stayed behind in the dormitory, which was reportedly locked to prevent anyone from discovering she was inside.

When the fire began, Theresah’s presence in the dormitory went unnoticed, and it was only after the flames were doused and the door was opened that her body was discovered. Other personal belongings, such as books and uniforms, were also destroyed in the fire.

The fire department’s response was delayed due to equipment malfunction. District Fire Officer for Saboba, ADO 1 Yussif Issahaku, explained that the fire tender’s pump failed when it arrived at the scene.

Unable to use the pump, the team resorted to using buckets of water, with assistance from students and staff, to fight the fire. Issahaku expressed condolences over the loss of life and cautioned the public to take extra precautions when handling fire, especially during the dry season, when heat can easily lead to outbreaks. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Saboba Hospital for further examination.
