“You Cannot Operate in Isolation”-Kofi Adams Warns GFA

Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has cautioned the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to align its financial operations with the government’s policies on fiscal discipline and accountability.

Speaking in an interview on Luv FM, Adams referenced President John Dramani Mahama’s recent directive banning foreign travel without prior approval from the Chief of Staff and restricting first-class travel.

“The President made it clear—foreign travel is banned unless approved, and even then, no first-class flights. This is the government’s stance, and the GFA must adopt the same mindset,” Adams stated.

He emphasized the need for closer collaboration between the government and the GFA, particularly in addressing concerns about declining public trust in Ghanaian football.

“We will engage them to ensure they understand and align with these policies. Right now, our football is struggling, and the relationship between management and fans is weak,” he added.

Adams urged the GFA to work with the government to restore confidence in the sport and improve its management practices.
