GFA Appoints Kassim Ocansey As Black Meteors Head Coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Kassim Ocansey as the new Head Coach of the Black Meteors, Ghana’s male national Under-23 team.

Ocansey, who currently manages Nations FC and has led them to third place in the ongoing Ghana Premier League, takes over the role after the team was dissolved in 2023.

The disbandment followed their failure to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris under former coach Ibrahim Tanko. The Meteors were eliminated at the group stage of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, extending Ghana’s absence from the Olympics since 2004.

The GFA described Kassim Ocansey as “the ideal candidate” to help the team rediscover its former glory. The association expressed confidence in his expertise and experience, noting that he would play a key role in building a strong and successful Black Meteors team.

Ocansey has previously coached Accra Great Olympics and Bechem United, further solidifying his credentials for this new challenge.
