A 36-year-old teacher, John Ankomah Boateng, from the Freso SDA Junior High School in Bekwai Municipality, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labor for stealing over GH¢238,550 from Bosomefreho Rural Bank Limited.
BBoateng, who used the GhanaPay app, had only GH¢2.23 in his account but transferred a large sum of money between February 9 and February 26, 2024.
Despite his low balance, he accessed and stole the money, later transferring the stolen funds to friends and a travel agent. He transferred GH¢10,000 to one Isaac, GH¢5,000 to Kwaku, GH¢20,000 to Duah and GH¢5,000 to Neymar. Additionally, he sent GH¢40,000 to a travel agent for the processing of his travel documents.
Boateng was arrested on March 13, 2024, after confessing to the crime during interrogation. He pleaded guilty and was convicted by the Asante Bekwai Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Isaac Apietu.
