28th Gusa Games: University Athletes Shine in Ghana’s Biggest Sporting Event

The 28th edition of the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games is underway at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), featuring student-athletes from 16 public universities across Ghana.

The event, themed “Repositioning University Sports for National Development,” promises to showcase exciting displays of athletic prowess and determination.

The opening ceremony, held at the New Examination Centre on the UCC campus, marked a historic first as it took place indoors and at night.

The unique setting added a spectacular touch to the event, setting the stage for the fierce competitions ahead.

From athletics to basketball, football, and table tennis, the games have already witnessed thrilling performances.

The University of Ghana (UG) women’s football team secured a 2-1 victory against the host, UCC, at the Robert Mensah Stadium.

Other universities, including the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), have also showcased their talent in this competitive arena.

Standout performances have emerged, particularly in tennis, where Tracy Ampah from KNUST claimed gold medals in both the women’s singles and doubles events.

In Goalball, Emmanuel Dela Mensah from UG demonstrated his exceptional skills, leading his team to victory and earning the title of the tournament’s top scorer.As the athletics events commenced, fans were treated to thrilling races, with UG’s Bazaa Kurug Morries clinching victory with a time of 1:50.5.

Seidu Salifu from UG displayed an outstanding performance to secure first place in the men’s 10,000 meters with an impressive time of 31:14.47.
