Accra Academy has taken swift action in response to a bullying incident involving a student, which was captured in a viral video and sparked public outrage.
The school confirmed that the student responsible for flogging a colleague with a cutlass has been handed over to the police for further investigation.
The incident occurred on January 17, 2024, but only came to light after the video surfaced on social media. The four students involved in the act, including three third-year students and one first-year student, have been identified as day students. The victims were four first-year students.
In response to the incident, the school has suspended the perpetrators from campus while investigations continue. The machete used in the attack was reportedly brought from home, not a school-owned item.
Accra Academy’s disciplinary committee is carrying out further inquiries, and the school has promised to keep all stakeholders informed of the outcome.
