Doctors at Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH) have suspended emergency and outpatient services due to ongoing issues and a recent altercation with the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
The suspension includes outpatient departments, antenatal clinics, specialist clinics, and pediatric OPD, but inpatient care will continue.
DATTH is demanding an apology from the Minister and Tamale North MP Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini for their involvement in the confrontation with Dr. Valentine Akwulpwa, Head of the Accident and Emergency Department.
To resume services, the doctors are asking for reliable water and electricity, adequate medical supplies, and essential equipment like ventilators and monitors. They also want more critical medical devices in the medium term.
Despite the suspension, DATTH is committed to working with hospital management to resolve the issues.
In other news, Dr. Abukari Bawah Abdulai has been appointed as the new CEO of Tamale Teaching Hospital after the previous CEO, Dr. Atiku Adam, was dismissed over mismanagement.
