EPL: ‘I Regret Not Signing New Players’ – Guardiola

Published on

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he regrets his decision not to strengthen the squad during the summer transfer window.

Guardiola’s reliance on his existing players has been tested by injuries, which have significantly impacted City’s disappointing start to the season.

In response, the Premier League champions are now looking to bolster their squad in the January window.

The club has already agreed on a fee for Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov and is in negotiations to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush.

Reflecting on his summer decision, Guardiola said:

“I always said in the summer – the club thought about doing it – and I said: ‘No, I don’t want to make any signings.’ I rely on the team and want to stay with them. Just Savio came, and Gundo [Ilkay Gündogan] returned unexpectedly.”

“But after the injuries, wow, maybe we should have done it,” he added.
