Former Education Minister Yaw Osei Adutwum has shared details of the significant strides made in the education sector during his tenure, particularly focusing on initiatives aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning experience.
In an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show on February 14, 2025, Mr. Adutwum proudly asserted that every teacher in Ghana received a laptop before his term ended. He invited verification from unions to confirm that the distribution was successfully completed.
Additionally, Mr. Adutwum highlighted efforts to support Senior High School (SHS) students, especially first-year students, with tablets and e-books. He emphasized that this initiative began six months prior to his departure from office, and approximately 200 to 300 schools had received their tablets by the time he left.
He also touched on the ongoing integration of a new curriculum, made possible by funding from the Mastercard Foundation, which helped develop digital textbooks. This was part of the effort to modernize Ghana’s education system.
The former minister also discussed AI-driven assessments for teachers, which enable instant grading of student essays. Teachers are being trained to use AI assessment portals to offer immediate feedback to students, further enhancing the education experience in Ghana.
