Ghana made history on Tuesday with the swearing-in of Professor Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the country’s first female Vice President.
The 73-year-old academic and politician was inaugurated alongside President John Mahama in Accra, the capital city.
Opoku-Agyemang’s inauguration was attended by several dignitaries, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, Senegal’s Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and Kenyan President William Ruto.
Her historic appointment marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s political landscape.At the ceremony, President Mahama promised to “reset” Ghana, renegotiate parts of the IMF deal, and introduce a “24-hour” economy to create jobs.

Born on November 22, 1951, Opoku-Agyemang attended Anglican Girls’ School and Aburi Presby Girls’ School.
She later studied at the University of Cape Coast, where she earned a B.Ed. (Hons) in English and French.- Academic Career: Opoku-Agyemang holds a Diploma in Advanced Studies in French from the University of Dakar and a master’s degree and Doctorate degrees from York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.- Politics:
