Ghana’s Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has unveiled plans to introduce an innovative “edutourism” program aimed at attracting students and educators from around the world.
This initiative will provide visitors with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Ghana’s rich culture and history while accessing top-notch educational programs.
Speaking on behalf of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Adutwum stressed that edutourism will create opportunities for global students to participate in academic programs while experiencing Ghana’s diverse heritage firsthand.
“We want to position Ghana as a premier destination for educational tourism,” he stated. “This initiative will not only enhance our educational offerings but also promote cultural exchange and economic growth.”
The program aligns with the government’s objective of modernising Ghana’s educational system and increasing its global competitiveness.
Dr. Adutwum stressed that retaining the NPP government is crucial to making this vision a reality.
As part of this initiative, Ghana plans to leverage its cultural and historical attractions to draw international students and educators.
By combining academic programs with cultural experiences, Ghana aims to become a hub for educational tourism in West Africa.
This development is the latest in Dr. Adutwum’s efforts to reform Ghana’s education sector. As Minister of Education, he has overseen the construction of STEM schools and promoted TVET education.
His commitment to modernising Ghana’s education system has earned him recognition, including being voted the Best Performing Deputy Minister in 2019.
The edutourism initiative is expected to boost Ghana’s economy while promoting cross-cultural understanding and cooperation.
With its rich cultural heritage and growing educational infrastructure, Ghana is poised to become a leading destination for educational tourism in Africa.
