The Parents’ Association of Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) has given the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) a one-week ultimatum to release the withheld Integrated Science results of over 1,100 candidates who sat for the 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The parents expressed frustration with the delay and demanded that the results be released by February 17, rejecting WAEC’s proposed deadline of February 28.
At a press conference on February 10, the Chairman of the Parents’ Association, Thomas Cudjoe, stated that the prolonged withholding of results had caused significant emotional and psychological distress for students and their families.
The parents have threatened to join forces with the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) and other educational bodies to stage a nationwide protest if WAEC does not comply with their demand.
They also criticized WAEC for allegedly using the situation to financially exploit parents and students by offering re-sit exams.
The call for WAEC to release the results quickly is also supported by the Western Regional Chapter of the Parents’ Association, which expressed solidarity with the GSTS parents.
