Hopeson Adorye, Director of Special Duties for Alan Kyerematen’s Movement of Change, has stirred controversy by reportedly taking control of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to prevent New Patriotic Party (NPP) officials from leaving the country.
Adorye announced his actions on social media, stating, “No government official is travelling from now. I am taking over the airport with immediate effect.”
His move is believed to be a response to allegations of corruption and fears that some officials may flee to avoid prosecution following the recent general elections, where the winner is still undecided due to coalition negotiations.
The incident has raised questions about Adorye’s intentions and authority to take such an action. His history, including being removed from the KIA VVIP section in 2019 and dismissed from the National Security Secretariat in 2022, has further fueled debate.
Amid the controversy, Adorye’s wife, popular gospel singer Empress Gifty, has publicly supported him, standing by their shared values. The situation remains tense, with many awaiting clarification on the implications of his actions.
