Ghanaian artist Mr. Drew has shared insights on how his time at Kaywa’s Highly Spiritual Music record label helped shape his career.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, he revealed that he personally funded some of his projects while under the label, despite it not being part of the original agreement.
He explained that this experience gave him a deeper understanding of the music business, including financial management, contracts, and revenue streams.
“I think the business side of it. You actually need to learn a lot. The paper work side of it. Yea, you have to work a lot. From clearance to even how your money is going to trickle in from different places, even after you are done working with somebody, how you are going to get your earnings, you know there is a lot that you have to learn,” he told Kwame Dadzie.
Initially, he didn’t prioritize learning the business side due to his 360-degree contract, but after going independent, he realized its importance.
Now, as an independent artist, Mr. Drew sees his journey as a continuous learning process. Known for hit songs like Dwe, Mood, This Year, and Sneaky, he is currently promoting his latest EP, The Loverboy.
