President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to forming a lean government while acknowledging the challenges of meeting public expectations.
Speaking at the Presidential Dinner in Accra on January 8, 2025, he addressed the overwhelming influx of CVs from individuals seeking ministerial appointments, despite his promise to appoint only 60 ministers.
“You wouldn’t want to be in my shoes when you’ve promised to appoint only 60 ministers, yet thousands of people are sending in their CVs. Then, maybe some people will be disappointed,” Mahama said.
He emphasized the importance of effective governance over large ministerial appointments, stressing that the success of his administration would rely on contributions from all sectors of society.
“The success of this administration will secure us another term, perhaps under a different leader. But we must get this right so that Ghanaians can continue to have confidence in us,” he added.
Mahama also pointed out lessons learned from the previous administration and called on his government to avoid repeating mistakes that eroded public trust in the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“There’s no use fighting for political power if we are coming to repeat the same mistakes,” he cautioned.
Despite the immense pressure, the President remains resolute in delivering on his campaign promises and fostering a government that listens and responds to the needs of Ghanaians.
