‘ I’m Going To Parliament To Fight For My Constituents, Not The Creative Arts Industry’ – A Plus

Ghanaian musician-turned-politician Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has outlined his priorities as the newly elected Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central. Speaking to Graphic Showbiz ,A Plus emphasized that his main focus will be serving his constituents, not advocating for the creative arts industry.

“I’m not going to Parliament to fight for the entertainment industry,” he said. “My responsibility is to work hard and deliver for the people of Gomoa Central, who trusted me with their votes.”

A Plus noted that his victory was driven by the support of the people, not the creative industry. He highlighted the lack of collective backing from groups like the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) during his campaign.

“When I was contesting, MUSIGA, FIPAG, and other creative bodies didn’t support me. It was only a few friends in the industry who stood by me. That’s why my focus is on the people of Gomoa Central, not the creative arts sector,” he explained.

However, A Plus acknowledged challenges in the creative industry and praised musician Shatta Wale for raising important issues. “Shatta Wale makes a lot of sense. They should listen to him because his ideas could help solve the industry’s problems,” he added.
