Former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has praised Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini for his role in Ademola Lookman’s impressive development this year.
Lookman joined Atalanta from RB Leipzig in 2022 and has since become a key player for the Serie A side. The 27-year-old also made a significant impact at the international level, helping Nigeria secure second place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking to Sportitalia, Peseiro highlighted how Gasperini’s approach has unlocked Lookman’s potential: “Giving Lookman the freedom to move around has allowed him to showcase his quality in decision-making and execution. The club and Gasperini have created an environment for him to grow in all aspects.”
This week, Lookman was named African Footballer of the Year, an achievement Peseiro believes is well-deserved: “Lookman’s victory is justified by his outstanding performances for both Atalanta and Nigeria,” the Portuguese coach added.
