Mahama Nominates Alban Bagbin As Speaker For Ghana’s 9th Parliament

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has nominated Alban Bagbin as the Speaker for Ghana’s 9th Parliament.

The announcement was made on January 5, 2025, following consultations between the National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Bagbin, who served as Speaker of the 8th Parliament, brings a wealth of experience to the role. His extensive parliamentary career includes serving as both Minority and Majority Leader and representing Nadowli as a Member of Parliament for several years.

According to a statement from Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Transition Team’s Spokesperson, President-elect Mahama expressed confidence in Bagbin’s ability to foster unity and ensure Parliament effectively fulfills its oversight responsibilities.
