Mahama Reaffirms Commitment to Improve Free SHS Programme

President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to improving the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme, vowing to address its challenges and enhance the overall quality of education.

Speaking during his ‘Thank You Tour’ of the Central Region on February 6, 2025, Mahama emphasized that education remains a top priority. He highlighted several plans to strengthen the programme, including securing **dedicated funding and decentralizing food procurement to improve efficiency.

“Education will remain a priority, and we will work to provide the best possible learning environment for our children at all levels. We aim to ensure that our youth have the skills needed to compete in the global economy,” he said.

In addition, Mahama announced a “no academic fees” policy for continuing students, offering financial aid to support their education. He also committed to expanding infrastructure at tertiary institutions to accommodate the growing student population.

Through these initiatives, Mahama aims to create a more sustainable and effective education system, benefiting students from secondary to tertiary levels.
