Manchester City has begun negotiations to acquire 18-year-old defender Vitor Reis from Brazilian club Palmeiras during the January transfer window.

The move is part of the Premier League champions’ efforts to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s defense for the latter half of the season.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City is leading the race to sign the young center-back, edging out competitors like Brighton. The club has reportedly tabled an initial offer worth around €40 million.

Romano shared updates on the deal via his X account, stating: “Manchester City mission for Vitor Reis, ongoing in Brazil. Even today and in the next hours/days. 18-year-old Brazilian center-back is key target after Brighton and more clubs had bids rejected. Man City are working on it strong, €40m package. Talks on. Deal on.” Reis, a Palmeiras player since 2016, broke into the first team last year and has shown exceptional promise. If the deal goes through, the young defender is expected to provide a significant boost to Guardiola’s side. Currently, Manchester City is sixth in the Premier League table with 34 points from 20 games, making defensive reinforcements a critical priority as they aim to climb higher in the standings.
