YouTube star Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson has jokingly offered to buy TikTok amid discussions about its potential U.S. ban.
With the January 19, 2025, deadline approaching for TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell its U.S. operations, MrBeast took to X (formerly Twitter) and said, “Okay fine, I’ll buy TikTok so it doesn’t get banned.”
The U.S. government has raised national security concerns over TikTok’s Chinese ownership, pushing for the app to be sold to a non-Chinese entity. If ByteDance fails to comply, TikTok could be banned from app stores.
This move follows legislation passed last year, reflecting worries about data privacy and foreign influence on TikTok’s 170 million American users.
While rumors have linked figures like Elon Musk to buying TikTok, the company has dismissed such claims as fiction.
MrBeast’s lighthearted comment has sparked widespread discussion online, with many sharing their reactions to his playful offer.
