Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, reportedly warned Marco Asensio that he would regret leaving the club, before the Spanish attacker departed for PSG on a free transfer last year.
According to a report from Real Madrid Confidencial, Perez told Asensio, “If you leave, you will regret it.”
Asensio spent seven years with Real Madrid, making 286 appearances and contributing 61 goals and 32 assists.
He won several honors, including three La Liga titles, three Champions League trophies, and four FIFA Club World Cups. However, he struggled to establish himself in the starting XI, leading to his decision to leave the club after his contract expired.
Despite attempts by Madrid’s hierarchy to lock him down on a new deal, Asensio opted to join PSG on a free transfer. Perez’s warning suggests that he believed Asensio was making a mistake by leaving the club, and that he would ultimately regret his decision.
Asensio’s departure was a sign of big loss for Real Madrid.
