Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, has promised to prioritize the welfare of retired footballers if approved by Parliament.

During his vetting on January 30, Adams acknowledged the financial and health struggles faced by many retired players.

He proposed encouraging active athletes to contribute to a pension scheme while developing structured support for retirees.

Addressing financial issues in the sports sector, Adams noted the need for urgent reforms to tackle Ghana’s GHC468 million sports debt.

He pledged to collaborate with stakeholders to secure sustainable funding, particularly for the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Black Stars.

His commitments have raised hopes for improved welfare and meaningful reforms in Ghanaian sports.
