Stakeholders Protest Removal Of St. John Bosco College Principal

The Student Representative Council, alumni, and stakeholders of St. John Bosco College of Education in Navrongo are vehemently opposing the removal of Principal Professor Joseph Amikuzuno.

A letter from the Governing Council, chaired by Rev. Alfred Agyenta, directed Professor Amikuzuno to step down by December 31, 2024.

This decision has sparked widespread discontent, that led to planned demonstrations in Navrongo, which were quickly dispersed by the Ghana Police Service.

Godfrey Apulala, an alumnus and demonstrator, expressed the group’s dissatisfaction with the decision, citing a lack of transparency in the process.

Key concerns include the principal’s impressive developmental achievements, such as building a 1,500-seater auditorium, securing new furniture and computers, and promoting deserving staff.

Apulala stated, “The reason why we are here today trying to exercise our democratic right is that our principal, Professor Joseph Amikozono – and it is not because of his personality that we are here as a professor, but because of the developmental achievement that he has brought to St John Bosco College of Education.”

Apulala listed Professor Amikuzuno’s accomplishments, saying, “He has brought about over 26 developments to the school and we have seen that for the past years, over 42 years, we have never seen any development like what he has done in only four years.”

The protesters are calling for the Governing Council to reconsider its decision and allow Professor Amikuzuno to continue leading the college, ensuring the developmental progress of the school continues.
