University Calls For Skills-Based Education To Address Youth Unemployment

The JILCE International University and Seminary has called on institutions to equip students with practical skills to enhance their employability.

At the university’s ninth graduation and eighth ordination ceremony, Professor Boison Boateng Nuamah, Founder and President, highlighted the importance of skills-based education in addressing youth unemployment.

According to Prof. Nuamah, research conducted by the institution revealed that many young people in the Afienya, Tema, and surrounding areas are unemployed due to a lack of skills.

He noted that the university has the necessary registration and accreditation to offer nine courses under the National Vocational Technical Institute (NVTI), as well as other courses that lead to certifications from affiliate universities.

During the ceremony, 15 students graduated with master’s and first degrees in various programs, which are designed to provide students with practical skills and empower them to start their own businesses after graduation.

One of the graduates, Mr. Elias Kledo, who earned a degree in biostatistics, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the course helped him develop data analysis skills.Mr. Kledo advised young people to take their education seriously and challenge themselves to be productive.

He also encouraged individuals with physical disabilities not to limit themselves, but rather to pursue their dreams and higher education.

By reiterating the importance of skills-based education, the university aims to play a role in addressing the issue of youth unemployment and empowering young people to succeed in the job market.
