Finance Minister-designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has reaffirmed the Mahama-led government’s commitment to maintaining and improving the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy introduced by the Akufo-Addo administration.
This assurance aligns with former President John Dramani Mahama’s 2024 campaign promise to enhance the program rather than abolish it.
During his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on January 13, Dr. Forson expressed his unwavering support for the policy, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to ensuring its continuity and improvement for the benefit of Ghanaian students.
“My party’s position on Free SHS has been clearly stated by H.E. President John Dramani Mahama. We do not intend to cancel Free SHS. The President has made it clear that the policy is here to stay,” Dr. Forson stated.
He added, “You have the assurance from the highest level of government that the policy will be preserved and strengthened. As a minister, I stand fully by this commitment.”
